Net Neutrality, Souce: Explain Easy (www.explaineasy.com)

Who are against Net Neutrality?
Internet Service Provider companies such as Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL etc.
Why are they against net Neutrality?
A few years ago, all of us were using Text messages for communication in a large scale. And it would charge us around 1re per day for 100 messages. With the advent of Whatsapp and Line apps we rarely use Text messages and we communicate for free of cost through these free messaging apps.
Only way companies like Airtel can make money is through data consumed while we use Whatsapp or any other app while communicating. This has reduced their revenue hugely. Because of which they would want a share in the profits of these popular apps like Facebook, Whatsapp etc.
What do these Internet Service providers plan to do?
ISPs want preferential data plans. It means that they will bring down the speed of the popular websites and apps. Later they would charge you extra to access these popular websites and apps at normal speeds. You would have to pay like 30rs extra (apart from data charges) to access Whatsapp at current speed and so forth.
Ex: It’s like they are reducing the speed limit from 60km/hr to 30km/hr for driving. If you still want to drive at 60km/hr, then you would have to pay extra. Basically the max speed remains the same, they are just charging you extra to remain at normal speed.
Why should I be caring?
Cause you will be paying extra for the same speed which you are already accessing. It is nothing but a law to divert more revenues to the Internet service provider companies. They can slow down speeds enormously and may stop you from liking a particular app or content. Thus putting Freedom of speech, Creativity and fair play at grave danger.
What should I do?
TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) on behalf of the Government is gathering public consensus before taking any decision with Net Neutrality. So kindly voice your support to Net neutrality and against differential pricing/speeds by following means.
